Amber Zhang began her musical journey at age four and a half, inspired by her ukulele accompanist, and took the initiative to learn the piano. At age six, she began formal studies with Associate Professor Peng Cao at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music in Xi’an, China, and later with Professor Danwen Wei at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.
Amber consistently earned top honors at China’s premier youth piano competition finals, including First Prize at the 11th Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition (Finals, 2018), Second Prize at the Pearl River–Kayserburg International Youth Piano Competition (Finals, 2019), Third Prize at the 10th Steinway National Youth Piano Competition (National Finals, 2022), and both the Regional Grand Prize (Central China) and Third Prize at the 19th Hsinghai Cup Piano Competition (National Finals, 2022).
At age seven, Amber gave her first solo recital at Xi’an Concert Hall, donating all proceeds to Xi’an Children’s Hospital.
Since moving to Los Angeles at age ten, Amber has studied at the Colburn School under Professor Fabio Bidini and Mr. Rodolfo Leone. Under their guidance, she regularly participates in student recitals and continues to advance her technique, musical understanding, and artistry.
