Eric Guo, a Toronto native, began piano studies at the age of four. He is currently an ADP student under Jonathan Biss and Anton Nel at The Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he also obtained his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (Honours). His former teachers include John Perry and Dean James Anagnoson, and he is an alumnus of the Taylor Academy.
Most recently a semifinalist at the 19th Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Eric won First Prize and the Mazurkas Prize at the Chopin Competition on Period Instruments in Warsaw. He also earned Fifth Prize at the Marguerite Long–Thibaud Competition in Paris. He has been named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30” and is a recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation Grant in Piano. His debut album, released by the Chopin Institute during his recitals on Chopin’s 214th birthday in Żelazowa Wola and at the Warsaw Philharmonic, received rave reviews in Gramophone Magazine (UK) and was broadcast on CBC and Radio-Canada.
Eric has performed in prestigious venues including the Rudolfinum, Warsaw Philharmonic, Żelazowa Wola (Chopin’s birthplace), Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio, The Chopin Museum, Dworek Chopin in Duszniki, Dresden Lukaskirche, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra-Comique, Salle Cortot, Ateneo de Madrid, BOZAR in Brussels, Eroica Saal and Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, Merkin Concert Hall in New York (aired on WQXR), Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Shalin Liu Performance Center, Gusman Concert Hall, Koerner Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Vancouver Playhouse, Hamamatsu Act City, Hyogo Performing Arts Center, and Tokyo Opera City.
He has appeared with renowned orchestras such as {oh!} Orchestra (Poland), Collegium 1704 (Czech Republic), the Royal Philharmonic (UK), Bach Collegium Japan, Auer Academy Orchestra (Korea), the Frost Festival Orchestra (led by David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra), and the symphonies of Fort Worth, Minnesota, Toronto, and others.
Eric has performed at major international festivals including Chopin and His Europe (Poland), Duszniki (Poland), Nohant (France), Dvořák Prague (Czech Republic), Bolzano Bozen (Italy), Frost Chopin (Miami), Rockport Music, and the Paderewski Festival in Raleigh.
