Sylvie Chiu is 10 years old and a fifth-grader at the Wilberforce School in Princeton, New Jersey. She began her musical journey at age 4 with Ms. Ikumi Hiraiwa and currently studies with Qi Zhang.
Sylvie has won several local and international competitions. She was the First Place winner at the XV Chopin International Piano Competition (Hartford, CT), a multiple-time First Place winner at the NJMTA Young Musicians Competitions, and the First Prize winner in the US New Star International Music Competition. She received the Gold Award at the WPTA-Finland International Piano Competition, Second Prize at the Ocean Music Foundation International Piano Competition (NY), and was the Silver Medalist at the Piano Star International Competition. Sylvie has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall multiple times since she was 5 years old. Her first solo piano recital was held in December 2023, at age 8.
Sylvie’s favorite composers are Chopin and Beethoven, and she hopes her hands will grow big enough to play Beethoven’s sonatas. In addition to playing piano, Sylvie loves swimming, reading, and creative writing.
