Ethan Mihaescu is 12 years old and entering grade 7 at the Roeper School in Birmingham, Michigan. Ethan began his piano studies at age 4. When he was 7, he won first place in the Crescendo International Competition and performed at the Weill Recital Hall in New York. That year he also won first place in the Michigan Steinway Competition Division I. Ethan has won first place awards in the MMTA concerto competition in 2019 and 2021 in divisions I and II respectively. Those years he also won first place awards in the MDML Young Artist Competition’s divisions I and II. In the fall of 2020, Ethan was one of only six pianists, of over 300, to be recognized in the Steinway International Virtual Competition Division I. Additionally, in 2020-21, Ethan placed in a number of other prestigious international competitions, including The Chopin Hartford, Musicale Romantic Competition, and the Rocky Mountain Competition. In 2021, he received a Gold Medal in the International Musicale Festival and was selected to perform for a Master Class with pianist Yuan Cheng. In 2022, Ethan won first place at the MMTA State Solo Finals Intermediate Division. In 2023, he represented the state of Michigan and his geographic division to become the MTNA National Junior Division 2nd place winner and winner of the Chopin Foundation of the United States Best Chopin performance. Ethan has performed for the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit on multiple occasions both as a soloist and collaborative pianist. In 2023, he was offered the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit Doreen Wessel Taylor Piano Award. Ethan was also selected as the 2023-2024 Bea and Harry Shapiro Piano Scholar with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Ensemble. In addition to working with his father, Ethan studies piano with world-renowned pianist Catherine Rollin.
